The term stock market is a confusing term as it can mean one thing to one person and something different to another. Generally though, stock market refers to the trading of publicly held stocks and shares with stock exchange usually being the term used to refer to the physical place that the stocks and shares are bought and sold.

A stock market offers a resource for companies to raise capital from the issue of
shares in their company. Essentially stock markets are a trading platform for share dealing and investing.

Within the stock market environment and stock market trading, information is available to all investors regarding the shares and the companies who have issued the shares. You would think that because of this, selecting profitable share investments on stock markets, would be relatively easy. However investors have many different ideas about predicting share prices with no proven, successful way to do it.

As the stock market and share prices fluctuate on a daily basis, there are no guarantees of a return on your investment and there is the chance of making a loss or even losing your entire investment.

Due to the unpredictability of stock markets, it may be a good idea to consult a stockbroker who may be able to offer useful advice and carry out any buying and selling of shares as you require.
